Conceptual Review Meetings are Available on Request.
Prior to beginning a project that requires site plan review, the Village encourages applicants to schedule a conceptual review meeting. This meeting is provided free of charge and will help establish a smooth process going forward. To schedule a meeting, contact the Zoning Administrator. SIMPLE TREE PERMIT EXEMPTION
For a simple tree exemption there are 3 easy ways to notify the ZA. 1. Download this 1 page Form, fill it out and either email it ([email protected]) or drop it off at the Village office. 2. Just Email the ZA! ([email protected]) and provide your name, contact info., and information about your tree removal. 3. Call the Village office (231-882-9981) and provide your name, contact info., and information about your tree removal. *NOTE: The ZA may still need to visit your site to review the tree removal request in person to confirm property and right-of-way boundaries. Sara Kirk, Zoning Administrator
Sara R. Kirk, PLA, LEED AP, ASLA, joined the Village of Benzonia as Zoning Administrator in 2019. Sara also helps to lead the Village Planning Commission. Sara is a licensed landscape architect and founder of SRP Design Studio and a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). She currently holds licenses in Michigan, Minnesota, and Tennessee. She also holds a LEED AP (without specialty) credential, which denotes proficiency in sustainable design, construction and operation standards.
Sara graduated with honors from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture with a specialization in environmental studies. Her areas of focus include park and recreation, community planning, site design and streetscape projects. Sara has extensive experience with sustainable design, in both planning and implementation.
